Demo Trading
Demo trading gives users a risk-free way to learn Pariflow before using real funds.
Demo mode uses simulated balances and simulated settlement. It should follow the product logic of live trading closely enough for users to understand prices, positions, P&L, and settlement timing.
What demo mode is for
Use demo mode to:
- Understand how prices, spread, and P&L move.
- Practice with live sports or esports markets.
- Test unfamiliar categories or strategies.
- Review settlement behavior before trading with real money.
What demo mode is not
Demo mode is a simulation. It does not represent live cash settlement, guaranteed execution, future performance, or risk-free live trading. Live markets can include fees, compliance controls, liquidity constraints, and market data latency.
Demo balance lifecycle
- A demo order reserves simulated balance.
- The position updates as prices move.
- When the market resolves, winning demo positions receive simulated payout.
- Losing demo positions close at zero.
- Closed demo positions appear in history.
If demo settlement is delayed, the position may temporarily show pending settlement while accounting finishes.
Balance example
Assume the user starts with a 3,000 demo position.
| Step | Balance behavior |
|---|---|
| Before trade | Available demo balance is $10,000. |
| After entry | Available demo balance is 3,000 is committed to the position. |
| While open | Portfolio P&L moves with the selected outcome price, but available balance does not receive the final payout yet. |
| If position wins | Final simulated payout is credited after settlement accounting succeeds. |
| If position loses | No simulated payout is credited, and the committed amount is lost. |
| After settlement | The closed trade appears in Positions History with final P&L. |
For a winning position, the credited payout includes the original committed value plus profit implied by the final settlement price. It is not only the displayed net profit.
Demo versus live
| Area | Demo trading | Live trading |
|---|---|---|
| Balance | Simulated. | Real account balance where live trading is available. |
| Settlement | Simulated accounting should follow the same product lifecycle. | Subject to live market rules, final market state, and compliance controls. |
| Risk | No live financial exposure. | Users can lose the amount committed to a position. |
| Execution | Can use live-style validation and unavailable-market states. | Can include live liquidity, spread, quote expiry, and trading restrictions. |
| Purpose | Learn mechanics and test strategies. | Trade with real exposure where permitted. |
P&L basics
Open demo P&L is an estimate. Closed demo P&L is final after settlement.
- Current value = shares x current price.
- Net P&L = current value - entry cost including displayed spread where applicable.
- Winning final value = shares x 100c.
- Losing final value = shares x 0c.
